A first trip to (I think) Stanhill for the Harriers team. Although we have had a prolonged dry spell for some weeks, the previous days rain gave a hint of what was to be expected on the summit.
The race is an out and back course with a distance of just under 5 miles and an ascent of 820ft (approx). The first mile of climb was on farm tracks before we swung off to our left and took to the fields, eventually reaching saturated, tussocky moor. After some hard work to get to the summit we reached a cairn and began our descent. Life now became quite interesting as we ran down the narrow twisting trod with little chance to find an alternative route due to the tussocks and bogs either side before evenually reaching the relative safety of fields and farm track.
First home for the Harriers was Stuart Litster followed by John Weaver and Anthony Walsh. The first lady and 4th Middleton runner was Marth Urwin making a welcome return to the fells after a long period of injury. Janine Jordan was seconf lady home from Sandra McGrail.
Also back from injury was Graham Jordan who ran a good race to finish 5th overall.
Congratulations to John Weaver and John Hall who won their age categories and gave the male team a real boost in in this 3rd race of the season.
