New Year’s Eve Fell Run & Walk 2024

This year we again had 3 groups setting off from Hollingworth Lake visitor centre.
Post Christmas and pre New Years Eve counter balance!!

The 11 mile route went up the Roman Road to pick up the Pennine Way, passing Blackstone Edge and White Hill. Not so wet this year as the wind had dried the puddles a bit but blowing a gale as they headed along the tops. Fiona again led the way round prior to competing in the Southern Spine race in a couple of weeks. We wish her the best of luck and fine weather.

The 6 mile route was led by Mark for the second time and although they took a lower route it was still “red cheek” running into the harsh wind. Plenty of rocks and mud to cope with so no easy jog!! Mark thoughtfully did a recce run last week to check the route and thinks it will become one of his fave training sessions this year.

The walk was no pushover either, still a fresh breeze at our lower level but a good, varied route with some mud and a few big puddles. These didn’t deter 9 week old Phoebe from being snugly and safely carried round by her mum. John leading the group was helped to find the route by Peter and family. Whew!

The café was very welcome after and our charity cash collection, about £90, was won by Julie Jones who is donating it to the 3 Owls Bird Sanctuary.

Thanks to everyone (46people) who came out this morning ran, walked and donated to this annual, low key, social event.Very best wishes for 2025

Fiona, Mark and John
