Middleton Harriers Conclude 2024 Road Season at the Morecambe Half Marathon

The Morecambe Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10k on September 21st, 2024, marked the final race of the road season for the Middleton Harriers. On a glorious, sunny day, this much-anticipated event saw runners of all levels gathering to challenge themselves along Morecambe’s scenic promenade. For many, it was also a critical opportunity to qualify for the 2025 London Marathon, aiming to meet the “Good for Age” qualification times.

All three events—marathon, half marathon, and 10k—shared the picturesque route, starting and finishing near Bare Methodist Church. The half marathon and marathon participants followed the same scenic path, running along the coastal promenade out towards Red Bank Farm before looping back to the church. Marathon runners took on an extra lap of the course to complete the full 26.2 miles, while the 10k racers split off after 6.2 miles to finish their race.

For the Middleton Harriers, the half marathon provided a final test of endurance and speed to close out their 2024 season. The coastal breeze and clear skies made for near-perfect racing conditions. The runners took full advantage of the flat terrain, pacing themselves strategically against the scenic backdrop of Morecambe Bay.

As the Harriers crossed the finish line, there was a strong sense of accomplishment. The Morecambe event, with its challenging distances and scenic beauty, was the perfect end to their season. Both individually and as a team, they had much to celebrate—a fitting conclusion to a successful 2024 road racing season.
