Race Review | Marl Pits Cross Country

On Saturday, January 20th, the Marl Pits Cross Country Race unfolded against the backdrop of what can only be described as untamed conditions in the scenic Rossendale hills.

Undeterred by the challenging storm, the Harriers faced the elements head-on, navigating a course that proved to be one of the most demanding in cross-country racing. Marl Pits delivered an unparalleled cross-country experience, featuring a dynamic blend of hills, mud, bogs, and everything in between. It truly stood out as the gift that kept on giving, presenting participants with quintessential challenges synonymous with the sport.

The ladies’ course, stretching just over 5km and 7.8km for men, showcased generously challenging elements such as mud slides and bogs. Completing this demanding course demanded not only physical prowess but also true grit and determination. A salute to the hardy Harriers who embraced this formidable challenge, especially considering the unforgiving weather conditions that added an extra layer of complexity.

A resounding applause goes out to the dedicated marshals at the Marl Pits Cross Country Race! Their presence on every corner proved instrumental, offering invaluable guidance and advice that played a pivotal role in helping participants navigate the rugged terrain. Amid hills, mud, and bogs, these knowledgeable and supportive marshals acted as beacons of encouragement, enhancing the overall experience of the race.
