NEW YEARS EVE PACK RUNS AND WALK 2023
A great turnout today for some hardy runners and walkers, 54 in total. We were very lucky to avoid the wind and rain and even get a bit of sunshine. Despite the recent stormy wet weather, the routes were no more than a foot deep in mud and some tracks were puddle free too! However, all 54 faces were captured smiling – at least for the camera!!
Everyone chipped in a pound or 2 and a generous charity kitty of £83 was raised which by random selection went to Fiona and Peter’s daughter Aoife who chose to donate it to: silkcatrescue.org.uk. This has just been paid to them.
The 4-mile walkers’ group, led by John Cox slipped and slid up through the woods, along the main track beyond the golf course and stopped for a couple of photos just after we missed our planned descent path. Soon found another one though and returned intact to the welcoming new Visitor Centre Cafe.
The 6-mile runners group led by Mark Lawson was described as: “a good run, good company and good weather so all in all a great morning 6 mile run on the fells”.
Fiona Lynch once again led her band of 20 runners round the 11-mile route over Blackstone Edge, along the Pennine Way and circling back to Hollingworth Lake. Members of Rochdale, Calder Valley, Holcombe, and Rossendale clubs plus some unattached runners enjoyed a fun filled route with plenty of photo and sweet stops. Kind weather and wonderful views led to everyone saying they enjoyed the run and agreed it was a wonderful way to say goodbye to this year.
Happy New Year everyone.
