The penultimate Fell race of the season took place on the balmy heights of Hades Hill on Thursday evening. In contrast to the monsoon conditions of The Golf Ball, Hades Hill was, if anything, perhaps a little too hot. With the nights drawing in, an early start was needed and this coupled with rush hour traffic and roadworks on Whitworth Road meant that getting to the Registration was itself a challenge. The next challenge was what kit to carry. There had been suggestions that head torches would be required kit, necessitating much rooting about in cupboards and purchases of battery packs, but in the event the race organizer left it as an individual choice and a lot of runners took no kit. The first Middleton Runner home was Mark Lawson followed by Rob McGuinness in his first Fell Race, with Janine Jordan only seconds behind.
