Calderdale Relay ’23

Congratulation to all our Calderdale Way Relay team on completing the challenging 50 Mile multi-terrain course.
In hot sunny conditions Mark Lawson and Chris McNally set off from the start/finish in Greetland on their 10.5 mile leg to the Cragg Vale handover.
Arriving at Cragg Vale, Mark and Chris handed over to Steve Vasiliou and Alan Garvey who set off on their 8.5 mile leg, taking on the climb to Stoodley Pike with enthusiasm!
The next changeover was at Todmorden where Lisa Grimshaw and Dawn Anderson, both new to the relay, set off immediately uphill on leg 3. This leg is just short of 5 miles, has a lot of ascent and has an uphill finish. Great running from Lisa and Dawn!
Setting off from Blackshaw Head on the 9.3 mile leg 4, Tony Walsh and John Horrocks ran a strong leg, passing through the most scenic sections of the course, including a technical woodland section before the village of Heptonstall, followed by a woodland descent and climb up to the moors. Finishing with a descent to Jerusalem Farm and (another) climb up to Wainstalls.
Cathie Murphy and Craig Sutherland took on leg 5, a 7.5 mile leg mainly over farmland with short sharp descents and climbs before the Ginnel finish at Shelf.
And so to the final leg to the finish at Greetland. New to the relay, Steve Carroll and Dean Clapworthy were our runners on this, the longest leg at 10.6 miles and they did us proud.
A special thanks to our team captain, organiser and general sorter-outer: Cathie Murphy. Same time, same place next year!
